​WHAT WE DO AT MRS. FELECIA’S PLAYHOUSE PRESCHOOL

  • Circle time is a group gathering during which we share our ideas, plans, and observations.  Circle activities are designed to stimulate youngsters’ thinking, enrich their social skills, and expand their attention spans.
 
  • Gross-motor activities give preschoolers the opportunity to use their muscles – as well as their imaginations – as they engage in fun, healthy exercises, such as running, jumping, and climbing.
 
  • Fine-motor activities help improve small-muscle development and eye-hand coordination. 
 
  • Art activities help creatively express their thoughts and feelings.  They help reinforce fine-motor skills and concept development in areas such as colors, shapes, and size relationships.
 
  • Dramatic-play activities help preschoolers express themselves, practice life skills, improve social skills, increase self-esteem, build vocabulary, and solve problems.  And, well, dramatic play is just plain fun!
 
  • Music activities promote listening skills, creative expression, and social skills.   In music, preschoolers can explore sound, volume, tempo, and rhythm.
 
  • Science activities offer preschoolers many hands-on opportunities for observation, exploration, investigation, making predictions, and experimentation.
 
  • Sensory activities allow preschoolers to experiment with textures and the properties of different substances.  These activities also promote the development of other skills, such as math, science, and language and social skills.
 
  • Block play gives preschoolers experience with many different concepts, such as shapes and size discrimination, spatial relationships, number skills, balance, organization, cause and effect, and classification.  Cooperative play skills, problem solving and creativity are also promoted in block play.
 
  • Manipulative and math activities help develop small muscle, hand-eye coordination, visual discrimination, concepts of color, size and shape. Also problem-solving skills and pride in accomplishment.
 
  • Technology helps preschoolers to learn new vocabulary, opportunity for choice making.  To develop hand-eye coordination and to develop concepts:  classifying, counting, matching, one to one part/whole, patterning and sorting.  And, discover color, line, size and shapes.
 
  • Story time is designed to help preschoolers develop an appreciation and enjoyment of literature.  Reading activities enhance children’s vocabulary and comprehension skills, and also expand their knowledge base.
 
  • Social and Personal Skills will give preschoolers a chance to interact with others and develop self-regulation, self-esteem and selt-care
 
  • Language Arts Language arts will give the preschoolers an opportunity to learn and practice communication and oral language skills.  They will gain an understanding of literacy to include print, phonological, phonemic awareness, letter knowledge, word recognition, vocabulary and comprehension.  They will have an opportunity to work on the writing process.

  • Enhancement Activities will give the preschoolers the opportunity to promote basic skills and a higher level of thinking.   These activities will be offered throughout the school year to include outside and inside interest areas, nature-related activities, social studies, health and physical wellness curriculum, nutrition curriculum, Spanish, sign language, cooking, STEM, soccer, tumbling, theater and life skills.
